I have Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm 24 yr old female. Whenever I drink I seem to drink alcohol which isn't very often I suffer what appears to be a psychotic episode. Halucinating and convinced somethings after me. Though by the time I sober up I don't really remmember any of it only flash backs and I'm usually in custody of some discription. It does also happen if I'm pushed to the edge by stress. What's happening to me? Is it part of the BPD or am I getting more Ill or is BPD a misdiagnosis? Please help

Not nice halucinating and Im more aware now of real reality again. Thanx again to u both x x x

Butterfly8671 - You've already answered your own question. You said, "Whenever I drink... alcohol which isn't very often I suffer what appears to be a psychotic episode." If you already know that you're taking a risk with your health when you drink alcohol then you need to avoid it, especially if you are not able to see your CPN or GP.

You might want to consider finding a support group so that you can talk to others who understand what you're facing. Psych Central lists several. http://psychcentral.com/resources/Personality/Support_Groups/

Hope this helps!

Yes, it is possible to suffer from hallucinations, flash backs and other very harmful and stressful events when drunk! Being drunk means you have drank more alcohol than your body can tolerate, and alcohol can also have dangerous (even lethal) effects when combined with other medications.

If you are not remembering anything by the time you sober up, it is crucial to seek counseling. Passing out or blacking out (and not remembering anything) are dangerous signs of abusing alcohol.

Are you currently in counseling? Do you need help finding resources?

Thank you for replying so quickly. No I'm not in councelling, my CPN tried to get me into CBT Therapy. I did try it but diddnt get on very well. I'm currently not under any care and not taking meds. I think I may still be suffering auditory hallucination, all since I hit the bottle a few days ago. I've been in heavy states of hallucination before but I thought I was better. I'm too scared to approach my CPN OR GP about it because my previous experiences with them wernt good. Forced addmition being one of them. I'm scared for what's going to happen if I don't go to them though. Will I get worse or is it all just because of the alcohol? I don't drink very often. But when I do it's alot. Maybe half a litre of vodka. Does this mean I can't drink alcohol at all anymore?

Correct: your symptoms indicate that your body most likely can not tolerate any more alcohol. It means you have what is called alcohol dependence. When you drink, and are unable to stop until you pass out or hallucinate, you drink a lot when you drink...you have gone over the point of moderate alcohol consumption into alcohol dependence. The more you drink, the more damage you can do to your body.

There is help. There is counseling, medication and prevention strategies. There are support groups. If you do not like your previous doctors, you can seek new medical experts-- but not liking a doctor because they provide you with the necessary treatment (forced admission to a hospital is not based on a "bad doctor", it is based on the necessary treatment to prevent you from harming yourself. it is THAT bad of a condition that you have. Every time you drink alcohol, you are are harming yourself).

You can review this information, as alcoholism (alcohol dependence) may be what you are dealing with: https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/alcohol-abuse-and-alcoholism.

Alcoholics Anonymous: http://www.aa.org/lang/en/subpage.cfm?page=12

American Heart Association: Guidelines on Drinking Alcohol: http://www.ncadd.org/facts/heart.html

Please, please seek help. Counseling, medical doctors...you will need a team of supportive experts and family to help, and strong resolve to get through this, but you can do it!
