I have never had sex, however I have had "dry sex" (meaning humping and all but with clothes on, me jeans and underwear, him jeans and boxers). Last month my period was very light and only lasted about 2/3 days, when usually it is very heavy and lasts about 7/8 days. This month, no period. So far it is a week late. I dont know for SURE that I'm not pregnant, and I will test for that soon. In the mean time, are there any other causes that could make you have an abnormally light period one month, then no period at all the next month? I had a TINY bit of spotting last week and bloating (which usually happens 2 days before my period) but then no period... could this mean I didnt ovulate 2 months in a row? I dont know, please help!

Hello Alexia and welcome to EmpowHer! I'm so glad that you visited the website and felt comfortable enough to ask your question--that is wonderful! I think the answer that Alison B gave you is great; I just wanted to add that when I read your reply and you were talking about losing 10 pounds after getting your teeth pulled I had an "aha!" moment where I felt you just hit the nail on the head as to why your period is late this month. I think you are very smart to speak with your doctor and everything if it does not show up soon. But I know in the past, before I had my hysterectomy, if I was ill and lost some weight, my period would typically run a bit late. Please post again to let us know how you are doing. Big hugs, Michelle

Fortunately, it is not possible to become pregnant without sperm entering into your vagina, and this needs to be done with intercourse.

There are many reasons for a late period that does not include pregnancy: stress, weight loss, medication, age-related, medical conditions.

Are you taking birth control pills? If not, then you most likely ovulated, and just had a light period. That happens. How old are you, as age can be a factor, too. Teenagers and older adult women can especially have irregular periods with no other "reason".

Do you always have regular cycles, or are they sometimes irregular?
If you are not having any other symptoms, and your period does not start in the next week, you may want to call your doctor and ask for his/her recommendation.

(reply to Alison Beaver)

I am 16 and not on birth control (although now I am going to go talk to my doctor and hopefully get put on the pill, just to be extra safe). Last month I had 8 teeth pulled about 4 days before my period and was put on tylenol 3 and penicillin, and because I could not eat solids, I lost about 10 pounds. My cycle has been very regular for at least a year now. Thank you tons for your help, I dont feel as worried anymore. I'll wait it out for another week then go see a doctor. Thanks again!
