hello, well this has been happening for the past 2 months, i talked my uncle hes a doctor , but he wasnt much help, and that was when it was first happening. Now again its happening, he told me that it was most likely my eating habits, the diet i was on, that if burned when i pooped? it didnt burn. it began with blood on the poop , then it went off to blood coming after i pooped, i was told that maybe theyre hemroids on the otside, but then he said they might be from the inside, because the blood looks fresh... and i also got told it can be cancer?? should i be worried? thank you ....

Anonymous, I know you don't want to hear this, but I agree with Cary. My dad was diagnosed with esophageal cancer recently and it was a result of stomach acid (GERD) which it sounds like your bulimia is creating in you. I struggled with anorexia and a big part of my running now is still that same anorexia, but now I have given up the idea of ever being super thin-I just want to be able to control my weight and exercise does that. I am 5'7 and 140-good enough. I know it's really hard to give up the control over your diet, but maybe you could try to channel your energy in a productive way...exercise more...or trying to eat organic or unprocessed foods. Maybe you could see a nutritionist to help you manage your weight without bulimia. Would you rather be dead than fat? I don't mean that as a statement--it is really a question. There was a time when I would have answered that with a yes, but not anymore. Now I would rather be healthy than thin. I am not 100% free of anorexia--but I am better. I hope you can incorporate some healthier ways to manage your weight to ease your dependency on bulimia. Please let us know how you are doing with your bulimia.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, Evelyn. It is a shame that eating disorders are often not treated as the very serious medical problems they are.

Hi Anonymous

I hope you are seeking treatment for your bulemia. I am about to tell you something scary. One of my very best friends is 35 and his wife just died from long term bulemia. She ruptured her esophagus, they tried to rebuild it, she ended up ventilated and with infections and she died in her very early thirties strictly from bulemia.

Please get treatment. People often think bulemia isn't that serious. My friend the widower would disagree.

Good luck to you.

Hi Pat, I stopped using NSAIDs before working out and I do not eat just before working out. For some time I also scaled back the intensity of my runs, but now I am working back at the same intensity and have few symptoms. Sometimes, I get stomach cramping that feels like the pain from before after working out, but not the bloody diarrhea. The last time I had that was May 2009 after a 1/2 marathon.

Hi Evelyn - Thanks for sharing. NSAIDS can be really hard on the stomach, so thanks for the tip on that, and the other information. I'm glad you're doing so much better, and hope this continues for you! Pat

I had anal bleeding last year that would always come after running and with diarrhea. I had a colonoscopy and they said I had episodes of ischemic colitis from the blood being diverted away from the colon and to the cardiovascular system. I had also been running through an injury and was taking naproxen before my runs, and also typically ate before running so that probably aggravated things. You live and learn. Is there any chance that this is exercise related for you?

Evelyn - Thanks for your comments. Would you mind telling us what you're doing to deal with this? Have you had to change your diet or eating patterns? What is helping you, and have you been able to return to running without having diarrhea?

As I said, "There are other conditions that could also be causing the bleeding." This article has most of them. http://www.medicinenet.com/rectal_bleeding/article.htm

Anal cancer is very rare, but if it is anal cancer and you wait it could make a difference. In the United States, an estimated 710 people died of anal cancer in 2009, including Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett. I hope you will take this seriously and get to your doctor.
