Q:

I was burned with boiling water (2nd degree burn), 6 months ago. My foot feels fine although I have some scarring. When is it safe to get in the pool?

The burn happened 6 months ago and I have done all the healing and therapy requiered by my doctor. When is it safe to get in the water? Do I have to wait a full year? Or is 6 months okay?

Hello, Anon!

Thank you for writing!

If a burn is not completely healed it is recommended that you do not swim in either a pool or the ocean as there is a significant risk of infection. We cannot evaluate the status of your burn. I would follow whatever timeline your doctor gave you. Did he say to wait a year? If so, you can ask him or her if you might return to swimming sooner.
