I need my mother here in Arizona.

My mother lives in Boston Massachusetts. She has Lupus, which has caused her to have two-retinal detachments.

She is legally blind in her left eye and Somewhat blind in her right. She also has a few other health issues. I feel with all her health problems she would be better off here in Arizona with her two oldest daughters.
She wants to move but is afraid to leave her current eye doctor who knows her history very well. She said if I could find a good eye doctor who could accurately read her chart and before touching her make sure they know everything they need to about her eye history, she would move.

where would be the best place to search for an eye doctor with a background in retinal detachments?

P.S. If anyone knows where a BINGO hall is she will move out here ASAP… LOL

I hope you are able to bring your mom here. Sounds like you have a very special relationship with her. Good Luck!

Kinnis, I think it's awesome that you feel this way about your mom and that you'd like to help her. A move from Boston to Arizona is a huge undertaking and it's great that you're only an opthalmologist away!

Here's a directory of opthalmologists in Arizona; if you click on Mesa or Tempe or Gilbert(since you are in the East Valley), it will bring up a list of opthalmologists in that area:

http://phxeyesociety.com/directory/index.html

Some of the doctors have websites of their own, with links that you can click on. For instance, this is a group of nine opthalmologists who all specialize in retina care:

Their main office is in Phoenix but they have offices in Mesa as well.

They even have an entire page on retinal detachment (among pages on many other forms of eye problems). Just click on "eye diseases" and then scroll down to find retinal detachment:

And as far as the bingo goes:

Have fun!!!

Thank you for posting your question. Now you have me worried, as I have lupus and am experiencing eyesight related issues. I did an online search about lupus and retinal detachment.

Extract:

Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus associated ocular manifestations usually consist of cotton-wool spots and retinal hemorrhages. The authors report one case of lupus choroidopathy revealed by bilateral serous retinal detachment, occurring 4 months after a systemic flare-up of the disease. An immune complexes-mediated phenomenon is involved in these manifestations, which are usually controlled by systemic corticosteroids and immunosuppressive agents. Plasma exchanges were successfully applied in this case, resulting in a disappearance of the retinal detachment in one month.

I understand your mother's reticence to move. However, her current doctor can refer her to one in Arizona.
