Q:

I just finished radiation last week. I have been burning bad when I try to drink Ensure or milkshakes. It has gotten so bad I don't bother them anymore. Is there something to coat the throat and stomach before eating and drinking non alcoholic drinks Than

Have throat cancer stage 2. Just finished 6 weeks of radiation treatment. Started drinking Ensure and milkshakes. Just started a few days ago of severe burning going all the way down. I stopped the drinks. Is there something that can be taken to coat the throat and esophagus before I try to eat or drink anything. Even though I am eating nothing right now.

Hello. Thank you for your message.

Eating bland foods that are soft and smooth but high in calories and protein (such as cream-based soups, pudding, ice cream, yogurt, and milkshakes ) usually work well.   I'm sorry this is not the case for you, at least right now.  Have you tried plain milk or plain yogurt (no fruit or sugar added)?  This might help.  Your doctor should be notified if you are not able to eat or drink anything.  He or she might be able to prescribe something that will help. I hope you feel better soon. Keep us updated.
