Had breast cancer was told I had too much estrogen. The medicine that was prescribed caused side effects. So I quit taking it. I want to lower the estrogen naturally.

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing and I'm glad to know you survived breast cancer.

DHEA is a natural hormone found in our adrenal glands. Levels decrease with age.

Supplements are generally taken to enhance energy, mood, memory, muscles and the immune system.

According to WebMD "Because DHEA can raise the level of both male and female hormones, the supplements can have a negative effect on hormone-sensitive cancers, such as breast, ovarian, or prostate cancer."

Anon, there don't seem to be studies to show that DHEA can lower estrogen - rather it can raise it (as well as male hormones) for so you would be highly advised to talk to your doctor before taking a supplement (as there are some troubling side effects too).

Best,
Susan
