Hello Anonymous,

You can certainly schedule a consultation with another ENT surgeon to get a second opinion.

I am confused by your question.

Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from your face to your brain.

Balloon sinuplasty is a procedure ENT surgeons use for the treatment of blocked sinuses.

Balloon compression is a procedure ENT surgeons use to damage the trigeminal nerve and block pain signals.

Maybe you need to ask your ENT surgeon exactly what procedure is planned.

I have sinus infections three/ four times a year. The balloon sinuplasty is to give me some relief. I read that when this is done if you have TN it can cause the TN to flare up. I just don't want this TN to cause me any more pain as I have it almost under control. It seems anything I have done around my head area causes pain later. I had cataract surgery in December and it caused a flare up. I am just scared...

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for providing more information about your health issue. I can appreciate you fear of undergoing the balloon sinuplasty to correct your issue with frequent sinus infections only to potentially exacerbate trigeminal neuralgia.

You need to feel comfortable and confident before undergoing any procedure. Getting a second opinion might be beneficial.

Hello MaryAnn,
I had the procedure yesterday and except for the pain..I was told it would not be "to bad" ..They were wrong it was really painful but I had lots of sinus problems..Except for the drainage in my throat I actually feel ok. Time will tell if it works. I think if I ever have to have to have it done again I will have them "KNock" me out. If this helps the TN and sinus pain I suffer everyday it will be worth it all. According to what i read and my primary Dr. confirmed it has been known to help with TN among other things. I will post in a few weeks so others with sinus and TN will know the after effects. Praying for a small miracle ...Thanks for you reply.. Ann
