Q:

I have intense sugar cravings, but only in the late evening. I am in my late 30's and had Gestational Diabetes with my second child. I don't have Diabetes now. Please help me with my intense almost uncontrollable late night sugar cravings! Thank you!

I get my blood screened regularly for high glucose and I am always at normal levels. Why now do I have such cravings when I never had them before in my life. What can I do? Thank you!

Hi Shanon!

Thank you for your reply! I should definitely cut back on my carb intake! With two young children and always on the run, there's a lot of temptations to eat on the go (which is not so healthy). Once the kids go back to school I will focus on hitting the gym more often and balancing my diet better. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Hi Kristin,

You are welcome! I completely understand. Sometimes it helps to prepare healthy snacks beforehand, to take with you on the go. Thanks for checking in!

Sincerely,

Hi Kristin,

Thanks for your question! Are you following a low-carb diet? Are you under stress? Do you live a sedentary lifestyle? Though sugar cravings are often linked to pre-diabetes and diabetes, there are many other culprits - including low levels of serotonin, depression and your body’s addiction to sugar due to your eating habits.

Your body's reaction to varying levels of carbohydrates in your diet can initiate sugar cravings. If you do not get enough exercise, your body can fail to produce enough serotonin, which causes sugar cravings. Please inform your doctor of your symptoms for an accurate diagnosis. Intense sugar cravings could also signify underlying medical conditions.

Did that answer your question? Please check back and let us know how you are  doing.

Warm Regards,

Shanon
