I have a two periods this month, the first on was heavy, then stopped for 3 days, and know I am back having another period. Is this normal. Since April I was not having periods and started the hot flashes, and night sweats, so I figured I was going through the change. Talked to my doctor and see put me on some pill to help the night sweats and hot flashes, but I did not think I was going to have to periods, what should I do.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community.

Menstrual irregularities are the first sign of perimenopause.
During this time of transition in a woman's reproductive life, estrogen levels fluctuate. Levels rise and fall unevenly.

As ovulation becomes more unpredictable, the length of time between periods may be longer or shorter, your flow may be light to heavy, and you may skip some periods.

If you have a persistent change of seven days or more in the length of your menstrual cycle, you may be in early perimenopause.

If you have a space of 60 days or more between periods, you're likely in late perimenopause.

Anonymous, there is nothing you can do about this. Once you have gone 12 consecutive months without a period, you have reached menopause.

Regards,
Maryann
