Q:

I have a friend who is anorexic and bulemic? How can I help her?

What can I recommend for her to do to help herself. She is very stubborn and slow to give up the things she needs to let go of to change her behavior. I am at a loss as to what to tell her, except encourage her.

Thank you so much for the information. I will certainly research it and give her the information as well. I did not mention it, but she does not live in America, but I guess this is open to everyone who needs it. I certainly plan on staying by her side and helping her through this very difficult disorder. She needs all the support she can get. She doesn't trust very easily, because she has been let down so much. I will not do that to her. Again, thank you so much for your help.

Hi bbnrse,

Thank you for continuing to encourage your friend to seek help-- that's very brave and noble of you. Too many times "friends" will just turn the other cheek when they know someone has a problem that they need help for.

You can continue encouraging her and also provide her with resources such as the National Eating Disorder Hotline at: 1-800-931-2237 (You can call this number yourself for some guidance on how to help)

You can also visit: http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/get-help-today/treatment-provider-disclaimer.php to find some providers and treatment information. You can give her the site as well to see if one day she will willingly search for help herself and she will know where to go.

I hope this helps-- thank you for not giving up on your friend.

Best Wishes,

Rosa
