I'm Having Menstrual Bleeding for 3 Weeks. What's the cause?

I'm 29 yrs. old and I've been having my menstrual cycle for 3 weeks to 1 month with about a 2 week break between each period. Along with my period I have huge clots. This has been happening since I had my daughter in 2006. I saw a doctor about it and he just put me on birth control pills to try and regulate it, but that just caused me to have blood clots in my lungs. I went on Coumadin and my period was normal while I was on the meds. Now I'm off Coumadin and my period went back to being long again and with the huge clots. Is there something my doctors should be testing for? Why am I having a 3 week menstrual cycle? Can this cause complications with conceiving again? What is wrong with my cycle?

I am in the same situation. I think changing place of living, stress, foods can cause the abnormal period. I try to balance life now

I am 29 and happily married. Since I quit the birth control pill (we use other methods, I wanted to take a break from pills), it has been common for me to only get a period every two or three months. This time, I missed my period for two months. Now I have been bleeding for about three weeks. I *don't* see large clots - maybe a tiny one during each bathroom trip - and the flow is not heavy. There are some days when I only see blood on tissue after I wipe myself. I have only felt one or two very mild cramps. I don't have any early symptoms of pregnancy, such as nausea, sore nipples, tender breasts, etc. This just feels like a mysterious, longer-than usual period.

This is the second time I've had this issue. The first time i was 24 and though i was not a virgin, i was not sexually active. This is the time i also started gaining a lot of weight (about 50lbs) but it's because I love food ( no other reason, i've ready discussed with my Doctor) i went a year with a my period (3-4 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off) i got blood test, an Ultrasound, i saw an obgyn and he ended up prescribing birth control pills and i was on it for a year and I was regular again until today. I am now 30 years old still overweight, still not sexually active (nor have i ever bad kids or been pregnant) and i missed my period Jan & Feb. and got it March 2nd (brown and light at first then bright red but no clots) then It became heavier and then around the first week of April (when i finally made an appointment with my doctor ) it went away for about two and a half weeks. Now it's back and its heavy and its almost a month since it came back. I got blood test done, I got an MRI (back in November) cuz i had a sharp pain near my lower left abdomen and the doctors didnt find anything then either. Well my doctor did not call me back with blood test results (i took the test two weeks ago) and i know no news is good news, but i still have my period. I did call to ask for the results but unfortunately my doctor is away for the next three weeks. Im frustrated that there is no answer about this? With what ive been reading only, birth control fixes half of the women and for the other half birth control does not work. Why doesn't anyone know why this happens to some Women? Thid is my second time i've had this, and I'm tired of leaking, changing my underwear everyday washing my sheets daily. There has to be an answer why this happens!

i am having the same problem, i have had these same problems recurring multiple times since age 14. currently, i am washing sheets and changing clothes and being caught by surprise with a mess to clean up-.
it is really hard, damn near impossible, to maintain a happily active sexual life with my husband- not with the relentless but unpredictable bleeding.
My skin is in absolute chaos- i wake up to a "pregnancy mask" that was not there the night before, pimples some days, dry, fragile and aged other days, only "normal" looking for two days in a row... another debilitating part is the crippling effects on mood/sensitivity- reading your post made me cry for God's sake---
I have not been to the doctor yet- i have no strength to go, yet again, to have the exam, the blood work, the imaging- jsut to find out what the next medication and procedure I will be doing-- which will work for a few years- just until my body finds a new way to thwart it.
I have been through rounds of hormone imbalance related invasive medical procedures at age 14, 18, 23, 30, and 35... Always with the same reason- "we don't know why" which ultimately means "we don't know how to keep it from recurring"
i just wanted you to know that someone else is in your boat

Hello,
I'm 17. I have a 9 month old.
After my regular periods came back, they normally lasted about 3-5 days.
Well my period started around the 10th-14th of APRIL.
Today being May 7th, I am still bleeding. No cramping or any other symptoms of period. And it's a bright red color. Please let me know your opinion please.

Hello Anonymous,

Please call your obstetrician about this tomorrow. Prolonged bleeding is putting you at risk for iron deficiency anemia, and the cause of the prolonged bleeding must be identified.

Keep us updated once you have spoken with and been seen by your physician.

Regards,
Maryann

Hi,
I have my period for the past 3 weeks. I stopped bleeding for one day and then the next day I was bleeding again.

It's not a light bleeding or spotting it's really heavy and I now noticed that there are blood clots aswell.

Should I be concerned???

I recently gave birth 10 months ago.

Could that be the cause or should I just be safe and go see a gynaecologist.
