I have 1 horizontal indent in both of my big toes. What's happening?

My finger nails are also a white and pink color and the tips are a reddish color. I found the indent in my toes yesterday when I was painting them.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for your question. Our nails, both finger nails and toe nails, can tell us a great deal about our overall health.

Normally, the body of a nail should be pink and the tip is white.

Beau's lines are indentations that run across the nails. The indentations can appear when growth at the area under the cuticle is interrupted by injury or severe illness. Conditions associated with Beau's lines include uncontrolled diabetes and peripheral vascular disease, as well as illnesses associated with a high fever, such as scarlet fever, measles, mumps and pneumonia. Beau's lines can also be a sign of zinc deficiency.

I have not idea nor could I find any information explaining why the tips of your finger nails are red.

Anonymous, consult your primary care physician who may suggest you see a dermatologist. Please keep us updated.

Regards,
Maryann
