Q:

I had a complete hysterectomy 6 years ago and I am now 44. I battle belly fat even after loosing 25 lbs. I've been told it is because I don't have hormones any more and I have never been on HRT since my hysterectomy. Would a natural HRT help me?

I've been told without hormones, I will continue to store fat in my abdominal region, and there is nothing I can do. I recently lost 25 lbs. and still suffer from embarassment because of my dimpled belly fat. I vowed I would wear a bikini as soon as I lost weight, and fact is, I am repulsed at the sight of my own abdomen. I work out 5 days a week with no changes. Would natural HRT help me? I am not interested in pill popping, but hope maybe there is a natural alternative for me out there.

I have to agree with everyone here. I am doing everything possible to lose this bottom belly but it is fighting back. I had a partial hysterectomy in 2013, just as I had lost over 62 lbs and was feeling and looking the best I every have. I cry daily while I'm walking, lifting, squatting, crunching, planking, praying and even running. I had a personal trainer who tried to be positive, but even as I was loosing weight, that bottom stomach seemed to be doing it's own thing.
I really wish I had done something other than the hystorectomy. It's the biggest regret of my life.
I'm saving for some kind of surgery to remove this thing that looks like the BLOB at the bottom of my stomach.

I had the exact same experience. My gynecologist sent me fir a consut with a Gunocplogy- oncologist That woman dared me into having a complete hysterectomy. Come to find out there was no cancer. Only a small polyp floating in my uterus ... Which had been detached with an in office test. Now I have to live in hell the rest of my life just because the Dr. Wanted the $5000 for her vacation she was going on the next morning after my surgery. She lied about not taking my ovaries then denied she ever promised that she wouldn't take them if the frozen section during surgery showed no cancer. She told me post surgery she never even said that. So beware. Doctors these days are looking for money. Don't let them scare you with the C word. She freaked me out since my Mom had just died of pancreatic cancer.
I am miserable and the doctor doesn't have to live in my now destroyed body. She didn't pay any attention to my pleading for quality over quantity if life. She wouldn't listen when I said I had no symptoms. She said it didn't matter since the lab report said cancer.
This turned out to be vey wrong!!! Pay attention to your gut feelings, not just what someone else is saying. The doctors life goes on as usual. You are the one who lives the rest of your life with the consequences.

I agree with your comment about male genitals . . . .The medical profession treats all of this very casually. Although my surgery was necessary since I did have a really aggressive form of cancer, no one prepared me for the aftermath. Throwing me directly into menopause over night, depression, the fact that they refuse to help with any hormones, the pouch and other disfigurement resulting from the surgery, etc. Finally after almost 3 years, I'm getting laser lipo to try & get rid of the pouch. I can't live with it. I'm just going to spend the money & pray I get a good result. . . .

Do you get the laser lipo? If so did it help the bulging belly?

Hi. No, you don't want your imperfect organ back. I'm sorry to say this but I have known people that kept their imperfect organs and later died because of uterous or ovarian cancer. I'm thinking of doing total hesectomy dispite of the the outcome with no hormones because it might save my life down the road... My mother has been through the same as you mentioned above but I told her what matter is that she is still alive and she just needs to take time to adjust it learn how to live with it.... You are always beautiful, no matter what, so please don't give up.

You are so right :( get a second opinion is my best advice, and not from a surgeon either! Also eat right like the lady before this post said. Eat whole foods, real fruits and vegetables, small meals more often and lots of water in between and exercise moderately. Sit-iOS don't hurt and neither does a spanks undergarment! ;)

very scary to us ladies which need to go through a total hysterectomy. The weight gain has already started with me. I had a full hysterectomy in Jan of 2015 and, here it is April, I have gained 4.5 pounds--all around the abs. Very ugly. I was once an avid trail and road jogger until the cancer had sapped me of my energy. Now, I sit down and feel the belly fat rolls upon one another.
I can see that the medical profession has put me into the domino affect of needing one thing to counter act the other. Ugh. :(

Wow, you sound so much like me. My total hysterectomy was done 10/2012. First 5 lbs started to creep up on me about 6 months later. Then more, and more--it is up to 25 and showing no signs of stopping. I love(d) exercising and sometimes would do 1700 reps on a cardioglide 3x a week; 55 minutes on treadmill. Now I can't do hardly anything. Like you, the energy is gone. It wasn't the cancer (it was way too tiny to have done anything). I had a great deal of energy before the surgery. My muscles are very weak, knees are killing me from the extra weight. Boobs, which were slowly but surely decreasing in size (a big thing to me in many ways) now have ballooned back up 2 sizes bigger.

The cancer was .03 of a centimeter and encapsulated in a polyp. Only symptoms were occasional light spotting. I never had any pain in that area whatsoever but now years later I am in tremendous pain every hour of every day.

They refused to give me any hormones post surgery because of the "estrogen receptors" that can cause cancer. So now I have to worry about heart disease (gallops through my family), osteoporosis, developed varicose veins in my legs, and so on and so on.

I have aged at least 10 years. That wonderful high from exercising is now just a thing of the past. Ditto horseback riding, which I used to love. That jelly roll is sitting on my upper legs as I write this. Have to move it aside to perform proper bathroom hygiene.

Knowing what I do now, I would have refused the surgery. Oh yes, add to this the growth of numerous very painful lipomas (sp) on my upper thighs and back of my lower legs, pressing on my ribs and stomach.

My underwear doesn't even know how to fit me now since this shape does not belong to humans. For a spot of cancer (I am going to have the pathology reports gone over) which could have been cut out, frozen or anything else but taking out everything I now dread waking up every morning and remembering who I used to be.

What about quality of life? Do these butchers EVER think of that? What is worse, this was done to me by a female surgeon. That really galls me. I am a fat, depressed, castrated person who has lost so much of my life. So glad I found this site or I might have gone mad. All my best to everyone who has been negatively impacted by this butchery.

Don't give up hope. I had total hysterectomy 3 years ago and even though I experienced the bloated belly, weight gain and my stomach will never be the same, I have finally managed to stop gaining and I've found things that help a lot. I stay away from simple sugars and I try to do sit-ups regularly. I don't over-exercise at all I just take opportunities to walk when I can but I eat smaller meals more often and that helps with the bloating. I also don't eat bread as much. I still enjoy some now and then, but I do things like have sweet potato fries instead of white potatoes or use spaghetti squash for my pasta. I take organic sulfur every morning which helps ALOT with inflammation and I drink green tea instead of coffee a lot of the time because coffee raises insulin levels. I've also learned how to dress to cover my belly fat with nice sheer or lace kimonos. There are a lot of loose fitting clothes designed to help so much lately. You
Might check into bio-identical hormones like estradiol and progesterone. Having hormone balance in so important and it helps me sleep which helps my energy levels. Find a doctor who is willing to prescribe them. They are much more common than they used to be. Not to be confused with synthetic hormones! If the body recognizes a substance as natural to the body, it's going to know what to do with it :)
