Q:

I had a complete hysterectomy 6 years ago and I am now 44. I battle belly fat even after loosing 25 lbs. I've been told it is because I don't have hormones any more and I have never been on HRT since my hysterectomy. Would a natural HRT help me?

I've been told without hormones, I will continue to store fat in my abdominal region, and there is nothing I can do. I recently lost 25 lbs. and still suffer from embarassment because of my dimpled belly fat. I vowed I would wear a bikini as soon as I lost weight, and fact is, I am repulsed at the sight of my own abdomen. I work out 5 days a week with no changes. Would natural HRT help me? I am not interested in pill popping, but hope maybe there is a natural alternative for me out there.

Update on the laser lipo - I had it done in July. Even though laser lipo is less invasive than regular lipo, it's still surgery. I am glad I did it - things are much improved and I'm still healing. You are swollen after the procedure, and there is deep tissue bruising that takes awhile to heal, but even though my body is still retaining some water, my clothes are actually fitting now. I'd love to have them fix the upper thighs that got ruined during the Robotic surgery, but that costs money. I'm just going to focus on getting in better shape now that the belly is looking better.

Please tell me about your thigh, is it now numb? That is what happened to me. How long has it been, did your dr say it would heal in time?

I had a hystetectomy 14 days ago. I'm 54 and in good shape; excerise on a regular basis. I use to have a flat stomach but after the surgery I have a pouch too and I hate it. I have been doing very simple yoga and walking as much as possible.
My question to you is, do you feel the lipo helped the skin/fat that hangs over the incision?

I had cancer in 2012 - it was a really rare form of Uterine cancer & required a total hysterectomy. I had the surgery via the DaVinci robot & they had those robot arms go from my upper abdomen down into my groin under the skin. (they had to remove lymph nodes from my groin). Well, just imagine jamming a fork into one end of a sausage repeatedly, and you pretty much can imagine what happened to my body. The fat got moved around under the skin & I have what I call the "wall of fat" from my belly button into my upper thighs. It's awful. I have a lovely "pouch" in my lower abdomen that has a life of its own. I think I can hear it breathing at night. . . . .

My weight hasn't changed very much, but any fat I do have settles there now. To add insult to injury, they were supposed to remove my omentum (which is a layer of fat running in front of your organs from your breast bone to your pubic bone). Instead of taking the entire thing, they removed the upper half only. Why, I don't know. So this contributed to the "ledge" I have at the belly button. My lower abdomen juts out - I tell people you can rest a beer on it! I can't wear most of my clothes. Even if I buy a larger size - nothing fits, since no one is actually shaped this way.

I've just made arrangements to bite the bullet & get the fat removed via laser lipo. I can't live with it. If you have breast cancer, breast reconstruction is covered by insurance. Unfortunately, for anything uterine - you're just left with your disfigured body. . . . nightmare . . . .

I am not sure if natural HRT would help.. I have also lost about 25lbs but the fat does not go away.. I have done cleansings, I do 300 crunches per day, I cut a lot of foods out of my diet but the belly is still there.. My last option and final option is a tummy tuck. I know of many women who have had the hysterectomy and we all share the same issue, that "Belly".. Good Luck.

I, too, had a partial hysterectomy (still have one of my ovaries so no hormone replacement needed) due to a cancer scare. (A vaginal ultrasound showed something unusual so the surgery was needed to find out what it was.) I had had three C-sections prior, so had the C-section-type of procedure was needed for the hysterectomy. In 2011, I had done the HCG diet and lost 35 pounds in 42 days, expensive but it worked. In 2012, I had my hysterectomy and have gained all of the weight back, some due to poor choices, though. I did the HCG diet again and lost some of the weight but did not keep it off. I do believe that part of my issue is choices. However, I am puffy in my lower abdomen and am still numb in the abdominal area as well. I keep looking for ways to lose the flab--my arms, upper body, and legs are in great shape--but to no avail. I did read and follow The Fast Metabolism Diet, and I lost 11 pounds in 8 days, but I didn't keep eating that way and so gained it back. I know that starving oneself just hurts my metabolism--the body thinks it's starving--so that causing weight gain. I am not working on eating healthy and not worrying about my weight as much--quality protein shake and almond milk for breakfast, protein bar and fruit for snack, salad and cottage cheese for lunch, a protein bar or protein snack in the afternoon, and a sensible supper. Lots of water, green tea, and some coffee throughout the day. I am seeing slow results, but I have also learned that the longer it takes to come off, the longer it is likely to stay off. I feel great, and that is number one. Good luck, ladies! I think when we decide to really feed our bodies what it needs (and yes that is easier said than done) then our body will start working properly again. No more (or much much less) fake foods and more whole real foods for this girl! Blessings to you all for great health and a wonderful life! :)

It is 2 1/2 years since total hysterectomy and I would do anything to turn back the clock. They scared me into it and now I can't even look at myself. I was told little to nothing about the effects that would get worse with time. The jelly roll so many are talking about doesn't even look like it belongs on a human. This is what happens when ligaments supporting abdominal structures are cut. The weight gain, almost constant constipation, shortened vagina--this and 30 more things that have made my life miserable.

They scared me with the big "C"--after surgery claimed they found 1/10 of an inch encapsulated in a polyp. I could have been "cured" with D & C, or freezing, or cauterizing but no big money to be made with that. Instead they had to castrate me at a time when I was making huge progress and feeling the best I had in decades. Even my breasts were getting smaller and now they have blown up again.

The only thing I can say is ladies get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion. Don't be scared into anything. The day they start taking all male genitals for a tiny spot of prostate cancer is the day I would say a total hysterectomy makes sense. I've come to hate the medical profession. I want my imperfect organs back instead of being someone trapped within this mound of flesh.

It has been 4.5 years and I would give anything to go back. Sometimes I feel like my life was taken from me at the age of 31. I am not the woman I was before the surgery.
