HI. I had unprotected sex on Dec 20. The guy said he didnt cum because he didnt last long enough. We did it for like 5 min not even before stopping. I was worried so on Dec. 21 I took plan b one step around 11 am. I felt some cramps and a little nauseous. On Dec 28 I had a period lasting one week. It was alittle different, a little heavier. My period tracker said my next period was expected around Jan 25. Usually my period is 3-5 days late. Now its Feb. 09 and I have had headaches and some cramps but no period. Am I pregnant or is the pill affecting my body still? Thanks for your time.

Hello Anonymous,

Plan B contains evonorgestrel, the same ingredient used in many birth control pills—and it works in a similar way.

Depending upon where you are in your cycle, Plan B may work in one of these ways-- it may prevent or delay ovulation or it may interfere with fertilization of an egg. It is also possible that it prevents implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus by altering its lining.

It is possible that in your case, Plan B worked by the third mentioned mechanism and that may explain the heavier menstrual flow.

Hi. I have a question. I had sex on the 21st and 27th of January although he did not finish inside of me. Later on the next day (28th), I was peeing and a piece of condom came out of me. He didn't realize that the small tip of it had broken, but he didn't even finish that time. I was scared, so I took Plan B on the 28th. It's been 6 days and I'm having the smallest amount of milky discharge. What's going on?

Hello Anonymous,

Evacuating a piece of condom must have been startling in itself. Some women taking Plan B will have menstrual changes such as spotting or bleeding before their next period. Some women may have a heavier or lighter next period, or a period that is early or late.

When is your next period due? If your period is more than a week late, you should get a pregnancy test.

Hello Anonymous,

I don't think you need to worry that you might be pregnant. Let me explain.
You had sex on the day after your period ended. Even if you had not taken Plan B, there was no chance that you could have become pregnant, because it was just the beginning of your next menstrual cycle and too early to be ovulating.

Some women experience menstrual changes as a side effect of taking Plan B. You had a period three days after taking Plan B. Your next period can start about a month from that date.
