I have a double S curve of 50 plus degrees and was placed in a plaster body cast at 13 to 15. I'm now having back pain, shortness of breath, my organs are practically pushing out my belly. I use an exercise ball to stretch. In addition I have extensive osteoarthritis in my hands, feets, neck, etc. I am using acupuncture for pain relief and control of my high blood pressure. I am active in real estate and provide child care for my great niece and nephew. Is there a brace that will help me? I use an old Homedics "TheraP" multi-panel back brace but it is no longer giving me enough support.

I am a Kaiser member, my primary care physician sees "cosmetic", I finally got referred to the ortho dept and physical theraphy, they don't know what to do with me. That is only part of what I need. All the extra skin and muscle gets "caught up" in my ribs and I cannot function. Because I am still flexible, they just don't see what I try to tell them. I'm not looking for a "tummy tuck", I'm hoping someone else has had my problems and found a way to improve their mobility. I've lost 2 inches in my torso, my ribs are almost touching my hips.

Hi there,
Oh my goodness. I can't believe I've found you on here. Very similar is happening to me. I am a female in my thirties and was born with Scoliosis, having had spinal fusions when I was a child. I have been noticing that my torso is shrinking for quite a while now and went to spinal specialists to try and find out what is happening, yet they weren't able to do anything. They confirmed my observations when they measured my height and I had lost 3cm in 16 months. What you described, I am definitely relating to and am quite scared. My ribs on one side are touching my hip, and feel that the other side is shortening too. I feel the changes constantly and see these changes in the mirror.
I too am worried about my organs and find it more difficult to breath. Do you have any idea as to what might be causing this for you , or have any doctors or practitioners given you any leads at all?
In order to try and help prevent it furthering, or get it back to how it was before all this started, I have tried physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and kinesiology.

Hoping we can both find a lead as to what we can do to help this problem.

I also have problems with Scoliosis and have found relief thru Dr. Michael Farrell,D.C. SPINE CORRECTION CENTER of the Rockies. His website is [email protected]. Hope this helps.
