Q:

Hi, I'm 17 and I am 2 days late on my period. I am having cramping and breast pains. I feel like I have my period but at the same time, I'm not bleeding yet. Is this possible? I am not sexually active and I'm not on birth control or anything.

It is not un common to have cramps a few days before your period actually starts. Sounds like you have PMS so don't worry. Worrying and stress can make you irregular too. :)

I'm not having severe symptoms. I'm still crampy and still have yet to get it. I know it could be irregular but, I'm still having the pain and feel like I have it when I don't.

Thank you Christine. I'm just freaking out because I always know when I'm gonna get my period. I always mark it on my phone calendar and know when it's supposed to come. I haven't been late on it in a long time. I'm still having a lot of breast pains and wake up feeling crampy and last through the pain for the day.

I am not sure why you are freaking out...are you having severe symptoms?

If you are not sexually active, are not having any severe symptoms, then have you considered that your period may just be a few days late? Were you able to read the articles that Christine sent you in the links above?

Women's bodies are not set-in-stone, and your period can be "off" a few days. Our cycles can fluctuate from month to month, and this is actually to be expected within a health range (information provided in links above).

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question and for finding EmpowHER. It sounds like you are about to get your period, but in case you don't, make sure to keep track of these symptoms on a calendar, so you can keep an eye on your cycle. It's always a good idea to track your cycles so if a problem is present, you can easily explain to a doctor what's going on. If you don't have a period for 90 days, a doctor will want to see you. It is normal for our menstrual cycles to fluctuate to a certain extent. For more information, please review these articles:
Menstruation: What's Normal, and What's Not, and What's the Deal with Irregular Periods?
Good luck and let us know how you're doing.
