Just off the tailbone, half of football in size, and not painful

The coccyx (tailbone) can grow a mass or tumor that causes a protrusion. You will need to see a doctor to have a diagnosis. It is a good sign that there is no pain. Tumors that growth on the coccyx can be benign or cancerous. This is why, you should a doctor as soon as possible.
