Hair Stopped Growing

Hi, the hair on the right side of my head has stopped growing it has been over a year, I have seen a dermatologist and he said my scalp and hair were clean, no skin problems. I got pregnant when I was 40, had a great pregnancy back into my clothes in 5 weeks! After I stopped breastfeeding it seems all my problems started, gained 80 lbs, my blood pressure and cholesteral all started rising after tests the doctors said I had PCOS put me on Metformin, the weight gain stopped but I have been unable to lose any. I keep myself on a very strict diet so my cholesteral and BP have dropped to a high normal but I don't know what to do about my hair, it is visibly shorter and thinner on the right side. I waited about 9 months to cut it and it was 2 inches longer on my left side, from the front right to the back. Any help would be great!

Hi KimJack,
Hair growth or loss and PCOS is common as there are many side effects of PCOS as you know such as you weight gain, blood pressure and cholesterol.

Here is a site with more information for you http://pcos.insulitelabs.com/PCOS-and-Hair-Growth-or-Loss.php.

Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. Have you talked to your physician about your other side effects? What did he/she say?

I hope this information helps.
Missie

I hope this helps. It appears getting the PCOS under control is the main objective.

Hi Missie,
Thanks for the info and I know all the side effects in relation to PCOS but my hair loss is not male pattern baldness it is on the right side of my head only!
I think with my doctor's help we have everything under control as long as I eat proper, she keeps a close eye on BP cholesterol etc. but she is stumped by the right side only hair loss.
Thanks again
KimJack

Hi Kim... I too...just like you have one side of my head (my left side) in which my hair does not grow...I thought I was loosing my mind... but my hair always very much lopsided...grows nice and steady on right...I have gray root regrowth and on the other side it does not grow...no gray regrowth. May I ask what your prognosis was? and if you have succeeded in any treatment? Thank you for sharing...Marnie

Hi Kim....I am sorry to hear that...And it ridiculous to have to wait for the Dr so long...my appt was also out A 5 month wait...while waiting I am taking a prenatal and biotin...doing scalp massage often....trying to eat healthier as much as I can....I just went to a salon to have my hair evened up...was a good 3" difference...the beautician said she had never seen anything like it.....I am 49...post menapausal...some people tell me could be because of low estrogen....but just one side? I feel so discouraged....no one seems to know..ill post the outcome from my dr visit in oct...so we can compare...hang in there :)
