hi i have a few questions on male fertility. My partner and i are planning a baby, he is on medication for his ADD he is taking dexamphetamines. We are in progress of trying the shettles method to try conceive a girl as we have 5 boys between us 2 being mine and 3 being his through previous relationships. I am at a fertile stage in my life early 20s my partner is 30. He also had a decreased sex drive at one stage but that seems to be back to normal. the main question i have is could he be slightly infertile because of the dexamphetamines ? And will the dexamphetamines favour a boy or girl? We have been trying now for 6 months, on the shettles method so we have intercourse from when my period is over to 3 days prior to ovulation. and our diets have also changed to favour a girl.

thanks for your replys, at this stage we are still trying, nothing so far, we have been told to stop planning and getting In to it to much as we both have been quite stressed that nothing is happening. its hard to do but they say that stress and the negative thoughts can put impact on conceiving. But i really like the idea of the pharmacist, we will go ask about it tomorrow. Might learn something new :) we wont be taking sexual drugs some people might though we dont agree with it, we have found ways to improve the frequency naturally. thanks for the help though.

Hi Babibubbles,
You raise an excellent question. I'd like to suggest a different resource; your pharmacist. They should be extremely familiar with the side effects of medications. I hope you receive the information you are looking for.
Best wishes,

Hi again,
May 10, 2011 - 6:52amI did some more research, and didn't find any conclusive information about how taking amphetamines affects fertility. You may want to ask your doctor and his doctor to determine if he needs to switch medication or an alternate solution for when you're working on conceiving.
Thanks again for your question. Hope this information is helpful.

Hi Babibubbles,
May 6, 2011 - 8:47amThank you for your question. I have sent it off to a few medical professionals for them to comment on. When I hear back from them, I will post the response here.
In the meantime, are you working with a doctor on your fertility concerns? I know generally speaking, and at your young age, doctors usually want you to try for a full year before concerning yourself with fertility, etc. I also know there are mixed reviews among the professional medical community in regard to the ability of pre-determining your child's sex.
Here is an article about that: Pregnancy Myth: You Can Select Your Baby's Sex
Good luck, and I will let you know when I hear from one of our medical professionals.
