Hello erricravi

Thank you for writing.

Are you trying to increase muscle mass by taking protein? Are you male or female?

Males should eat about 60 grams of protein a day while women should consume less - about 50 grams, give or take a few grams.

Whether more protein than these amounts is harmful is a bit controversial. Proponents of high protein diets say that the kidneys can break down excess protein easily, others say that it causes sluggish kidneys ,with a lack of efficiency and with too high a burden to work well.

The bottom line is to not overdo protein, especially if you see signs of poor health once you increase your protein significantly.

Too much protein can potentially cause heart issues if eaten alongside saturated fat (red meat, for example). Make sure you are consuming lean protein that includes plant based sources.

Best,
Susan
