does Imuran effect your liver enzyens and you red/wihite Blood cells also does it cause your feet and legs swell? Thanks

Imuran can increase your liver enzymes. I was diagnosed with MG 3 years ago and experienced every symptom. I was originally prescribed Imuran, but my liver enzymes became elevated - which I believe also caused my ankles to swell often. Apparently the increase in liver enzymes is common with Imuran and can potentially cause issues with white blood cells (including lymphoma). My doctor changed my script to Cellcept, which has less side effects, works faster at controlling the antibodies that contribute to the condition, and is becoming more popular over Imuran for MG treatment. So far, it's worked very well for me. You should definitely speak with your neurologist. Let me know how it goes.

Azathioprine (Imuran) is used with other medications to prevent rejection of kidney transplants. It is also used to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis (a condition in which the body attacks its own joints, causing pain and swelling) when other medications and treatments have not helped. Azathioprine is in a class of medications called immunosuppressants. It works by weakening the body's immune system so it will not attack the transplanted organ or the joints.
