Does anyone know anything about probiotic skin care products?

I keep hearing the buzz about probiotics. Its in yogurt drinks, pizza, and even straws to put in smoothies. I dont know alot about them but the other day a neighbor had mentioned using a skin care line with probiotics and how they made a huge difference for her. I dont want to throw anymore money away but Im curious because I do really need a new skin care product and Im tired of buying products that dont work. Anyone have any suggestions or clarification on what these probiotic skin care products are?

I've had such good luck with my probiotic supplement (Nutri-Health's Flora Source, contains more strains and cells than you'd find in yogurt) that I also wanted to double up with a probiotic skin care product. My supplement was really helping to balance and cleanse me from the inside out, and I found Nude Skincare, which makes probiotic skin care products here: http://www.nudeskincare.com/. I'll let you know how these products work!

Dear Anon, I have heard of a couple of new products in the market that claim to contain "probiotics" in their formula. Whether a facial cream or something you take by mouth, I think the key is to consider the cost of the investment and the claims of the product. I believe that the best probiotic-filled product is one that offers "live" bacteria versus freezed or processed as it would be the case of a skin care product. I am not sure how the product can garantee the effectiveness of the probiotic when the bacteria is no longer alive. Maybe you could ask the manufacturer. In the meantime, consume products that offer "live" populations of bacteria like yogurt, kefir, etc.

I am not sure--I'll have to look into this and get back with you. I know what you mean about buying the "latest and greatest" product on the market, and feel like you're wasting your money.

If I can not find information, I'll see if we can contact a board-certified dermatologist to help us answer this question.
