I have been on tri sprintec for over a year now. Last month I took my pill at the same time everyday (8:40am). When Starting this new pack, I believe i took the first pill around 2pm and had protected sex later that night. The next morning I took the second pill at 9:44am and had unprotected sex using the pull out method. Each day since then I have been taking my pill at 8:46. A few days ago (still in the first week of the new pack) I had unprotected sex using the pill out method twice. Is there a chance I can become pregnant because I took that first pill a few hours late? I will be going on 2 without taking an EC

Guide

Hello, Dudewhy21. Thank you for your message.

Birth control pills are highly effective and offer daily protection against pregnancy.  There is no unsafe day. If you are taking your birth control pills regularly (no missing pills, etc.,) there is about a 1% chance of pregnancy, even with full intercourse, (ejaculation) so the risk is very small. Condoms are not required if you are on the pill, but some women still choose to use them and that fine.  Being a few hours late is no cause for concern if you took the pill.

best,

Helena
