hello. in August around the 15th I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. it was sunday early morning and on Monday I went and bought Plan B. I took the one step and assumed everything was ok. my period normally starts and I experienced spotting and I assumed that it was late because of planB. The following week my period started. Birght red and heavier than normal, I accredited this to plan B too. Normally my period lasts for a maximum of 4 days but this went on for the entire week and by the weekend I started having huge clots (sorry). That lasted for a good week and after that I experienced a brownish discharge. My period hasn't stopped since. It seems to stop but then I experience the discharge and then its back to Bright red blood. At first I thought that maybe the baby hadn't passed as I just assumed that all this was happening because planB didn't take and I was experiencing a miscarriage. I don't understand why I'm still passing fresh blood after so long. What could be the problem?

Hi Anon and thanks for your question -

It sounds like you've had a difficult time for a while now. Taking an emergency contraceptive sometimes results in changes in cycle dates as well as light, unexpected vaginal bleeding. Bleeding for more than three days and heavy bleeding isn't the norm and could indicate a serious health concern. You need to see your healthcare provider to get the support you need to determine what's happened and the next steps.

Best,

Pam
