Q:

Could I be pregnant?

I’ve never had sex before. EVER. But the closest thing I’ve ever had to sexual contact has me really worried.

My boyfriend and I were fully clothed. We made out, I sat on his lap and it was great. He touched me over my pants, and for some reason I can’t stop thinking that I might be pregnant. Or that there could even be a risk.

Someone please snap me out of it. I’m 17. And I’m worrying over nothing, right?

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Thanks for your post! Did you have sex ed at school? If not, it's a good idea to study on your own so you know how sex and the human body works. You can read books on this or search our own site. This will eliminate a lot of stress than the unknown can cause.

A woman cannot get pregnant unless she has unprotected sex (naked) with ejaculation. She would also have to be ovulating. Sperm will not travel through a layer of clothing to impregnate.

You did not have sex or anything close - you just made out while fully clothed.

So a pregnancy cannot occur from what you did.

Best,
Susan
