Hi I am 23 years old and I have always had problems with my cycle. My last cycle was from April 23 - 27,2010. My cycle motsly comes on between the 27th and 29th day and I have not had a cycle yet. I toke a pregancy test on May 24th because I had to get an open MRI done and it came up negative. I have not had any signs that my cycle is about to start. Is it to be pregant? If so was it bad to have an open MRI. I really wont be mad if I am pregnant I just don't know if the open MRI was harmfull. I go to the OBGY on June 14th should I wait untill I go to let them run another pregnacy test if I don't have my cylcle before than. Please help me because I don't want to hurt my baby if I am pregnant.

Thanks for letting us know! Please keep us updated, and we look forward to talking with you again.

Be sure to take notes (ask how things are spelled, if you have a doctor that "rattles off" many terms), and we can help you research conditions if you need any information.

Thank you so very much. I have seen some very light spotting today but it seems like it is about to stop so I am going to wait and see whats happens. If it dose stop I think I will wait untill I go to my OBGYN on June 14th to take another pergancy test. I will keep you all updated.

My cycle has become a little irregular but from counting from day one of the cycle from the month before this one my cycle began on day 29. Yes I have had unpretected sex several times since my last cycle and I did not use any form of birth control. I have not had any recent illness, I am not taking any medication, and I have not been stessed out at all. Your answer did help me a little. I plan on takeing another test by Friday if my cyle dose not start; and I will make sure to post to let you all know the results.

Thanks for letting us know! Since you are on Day 29 of your cycle, and your cycle has been irregular at times, it is perfectly normal for your next period to not even begin for another week...and would not be considered "late". You are still well within the average "normal" ranges for your period, and your cycle can be irregular for so many different reasons. Some women have late, or even miss an entire period, for reasons "unknown", and can simply be associated with environmental changes. Our bodies are constantly interacting and reacting to our environment, and our hormones play a large role in our cycles...anything can slightly alter these delicate balances, and it does not mean that anything is wrong.

Please let us know when your period begins, or if you decide to take another test in a week. Take care.

Hi,
Could you explain what type of problems you have always had with your cycle? Are these problems related to your cycle being irregular?

I am assuming you've had unprotected sex since your last menstrual cycle, and are wondering if the pregnancy test you took is correct? I assume you are not on any type of birth control?

You can not rely only on the calendar date to know when your period is about to start, as you say it usually starts on the 27th or 29th day. Your cycle can be irregular in length, but it is more accurate to count the number of days in your cycle (with Day 1 counting as the first day of your period), with the average range being 21-35 days. As you can calculate, your period will begin to fall on different calendar days eventually.

Since today is May 30th, you can choose to take another pregnancy test, since it has been 38 days since your last period. This pregnancy test would be very reliable, assuming your period usually begins prior to 38 days.

Let us know what the test says, as there are many reasons for a late period that are not pregnancy-related, having to do with recent illness, medication, stress or underlying medical conditions.
