I was told by a doctor that my chances of having a child were slim to none due to damage to my reproductive organs when I was younger. Well I had not had sex since January, all periods were normal afterwards. Then I had a period April 5th lasted normal 5 days had sex again for the first time since January on March 7th (was already late). I had began to experience light headedness and nausea the very next day BUT i figured it was impossible so i figured it may be PMS symptoms or stomach flu. It is now May 17th and i have had no signs of a period, I am extremely nauseated all day every day, light headed and fatigue, but its only been almost 2 weeks since i had sex. I am unsure what to think. It has been 42 days which makes me 12 days late. Should I take a pregnancy test this early after intercourse...could we have conceived that closed to my next expected period?

Hi Anonymous,
May 18, 2011 - 10:28amAnytime you have sexual intercourse without using contraception, it increases your chances of getting pregnant. It is possible however, that your period is just late. You can take a home pregnancy test. They generally are accurate if you've missed your period.
If it is negative, and you don't get your period, you may want to schedule a visit with your doctor to ensure everything is how it should be.
