I had scoliosis surgery at the age of twelve in 2002 with a forty seven degree curve. I had two Harrington rods and screws put into my spine such as someone mentioned that is known As a fusion. Five years later I began noticing more pain that usual and pretty much was just put on pain meds because my original surgeon no longer accepted my insurance. I we to five orthopedics that we're not willing to take on my case because i had already been operated on. Finally After being hospitalized more than four times for pain another ortho sent me for an MRI And under my rods are grade I spondylolthesis And spondylolsis of my l5 vertabrae With mild. Ass affects on my nerve roots. Also degenerative disc disease from l3 to l5 And from l4 to l5 there is a right aide annual tear. There was also a bulge from l3 to l4 causing central stenosis. In one yEar be ause I went last week oct 2012 it found i. Ow have levoscoliosis in my l2 lumbar spine it is only at 13 degrees but it only took a year for hat to be added to the list of problems I have. Not to. Mention cervical lordosis and two herniations Above my rods. I don't know where else to turn or what to do I was recommended epidural injections for pain but if it his is progressing at this rate and I am a 24 year old mom of three year old twins I dont want to just. Mask the pain until it becomes dangerous. At advice would be greatly appreciated thank you-kristan

Thank you for your response. I live on long island ny the closest one I know of is stony Brook medical center. I called there but I believ whoever I talked to didn't know what they were talking about. My doctor told me they would do the epidural shots there because they are paid through the hospital, but when i called and told them my circumstances they tell me "we don't ha e a dr here who does post op scoliosis patients. I'm going to call back again because it's my last hope until I can afford good insurance. I'm just worried about having to g through doing the shots which I was told I have to have do e every 28 days and just covering g up the pain. That's how I feel now being on meds just to be Able to pick up my kids. nd at 24 that's an Awful feeling. Well I try to keep positive and think there are plenty of people In the world that have it worse so don't fall into self pity. Thanks again Maryann

Hello Momoftwins88,

I am so very sorry to hear that you are in such pain. As you are well aware, you have a very serious and complicated condition. You need the expertise of a very specially trained neurosurgeon/orthopedic surgeon.

The limitation of your insurance coverage may pose a real problem in getting treated by the right surgeon. Is there a neurosurgical clinic or medical school near your home? These two places may offer excellent treatment at little to no cost.
