Colonoscopy following nephrectomy

My mom is 67 yrs old and under went a radical nephrectomy in January. She was diagnosed in December 2009 with Renal Cell Carcinoma. She had an embolization performed just prior to the nephrectomy. Yesterday she under went a routine colonoscopy and was told by the Dr. that he was unable to get "all the way through" because of scar tissue from her surgery. They removed a few polyps ... but have not sent them to oathology that I know of. She also had a portion of her vena cava removed because of a blood clot from the tumour. No complications from the surgery.

I'm confused as to why the ployps were not sent away and how a nephrectomy can cause scar tissue in your colon. I've heard of some obstructions while in hospitals and immediately foloowing surgery but not months later and asymptomatic. Any ideas?

Hi, Just wanted toss in my two cents. My daughter had a lump in her side and so she was sent to a GI doc who did a colonoscopy and found that my 24 year old daughter had atypical precancerous polyps but he couldn't determine what the lump was and thought she had thickening of the cecum, but didn't know why she had the polyps at such a young age. Many specialists and much pain later, we have found out that she has a fallen kidney on the right side. We believe that the reason the polyps are connected to the nephroptosis is because the kidney when it has fallen (or in my daughters case anyway) was sitting on the Colon and caused chronic constipation and a blockage of blood flow.
