CFS is one of the most controversial and mysterious maladies of our time. No one knows what causes CFS. Debate around viral infections, blood pressure abnormalities, food allergies, childhood traumatic events, chemical sensitivites have been on the table for discussion among doctors and scientists for decades. Even today, some doctors do not believe it is a real condition. But as a sufferer, you are among many women and men who experience the debilitating symptoms on a daily basis. I think we will come to a better understanding of this condition some day and it will be more than likely a combination of factors that results in a depressed immune system.

Like you, I have been asked by clients how to minimize the symptoms of CFS naturally. My first question to them is, are you willing to make major changes in your life? This includes: nutrition, attitude, routine, etc. If they say YES, then I ask them to get started by doing the following:

1. Measure your pH levels in your system. Many healthfood stores sell these strips. You can order them online too. Almost 90% of the time the pH levels will be lower than 6.5 which makes the body acidic. Body acidity is a sign of oxidative stress, picture your body rusting from the inside. What a thought!!!

2. The best way to increase alkaline levels (pH) in the system is by increasing raw greens and detoxifying the body for a couple of days. Drinking plenty of water to flush out toxins is very important. Try a water that has pH levels of 7.0 or higher.

3. Set aside 5-10 minutes to do breathing exercises to increase oxygen levels in your heart, blood, brain and lungs.

4. Eliminate sugars, alcohol, white processed flours, corn syrup, hydrogenated oils or any other processed food (boxed or canned) from your diet for at least a month. Withdrawls are very common as your body eliminates the toxins

5. Increase good bacteria in your gut by eating plan yogurt or any product containing "live" bacteria

6. Raw greens smoothies (khale, chard, cabbage, carrots, beats, celery) first thing in the morning and at least 2-3 more glasses during the day.

7. Raw fruits smoothies. Watermelon with lemon juice is a natural liver cleanser. It is best first thing in the morning before anything else and througout the day. Lime, cherries, acai, grape fruit are high in pH and the sugar is lower in these fruits. Fresh papaya juice is great for the digestive system and a natural laxative.

8. Find good sources of protein (eggs, turkey, fish, beans, lentils) and carbs (legumes, fruits and veggies, hemp, buckweat), flax seed and my favorite "quinua". Replace white rice with brown and potatoes with yams.

9. Walk 30 minutes at least 3 times per week. If you are sedentary, start with 10-15' and gradually increase the time and frequency per week. Make sure your joints adjust to movement slowly. It is important to breath in harmony with the motion of your body.

10. Practice stress reduction techniques - change thought patterns

I take the supplements below to support cellular energy:

B-Complex - for energy production
Selenium - deficiency of this mineral makes viruses replicate easier
Magnesium - 250mg twice a day is a good start. If you get diarrhea, then reduce the dosage
Vitamin B12 - sublingual 1,000mcg at least per day
CoQ10 - 100 mg 2-3 times per day - produces energy within the cells
MSM - very important for joint health and to protect body from fybromyalgia.
NADH - 10mg on an empty stomch each morning

Hope this helps!
