Q:

Can you spot bleed days before your actual period starts, or is the spotting considered the start?

I am looking to get pregnant but am having trouble figuring out the actual start day of my last period. My periods are usually light on the first day, but sometimes I spot a few days before the actual flow begins. I'm just curious if the spotting is considered the first day to calculate ovulation from.

Thanks Alison for your post. You answered every question I have had over the last 6 months. No one could really give me the straight forward answers that you provided here. I am going to start tracking both times in my cycle now and leave that big window of opportunity open. It has really helped me and my hubby. -RW

Was just reading through this thread as I have had similar questions re: spotting/actual bleeding in relation to TTC. Thank you Alison for clearing things up - very helpful! I will also try to track "both" cycles from now on.
