I recently received this question in my ASK Michelle section and although I replied to her with some links to information on the site and some other suggestions, I wanted to post her question on here as I know other people will be able to give her even more help, ideas, and hope. This is what she wrote:

"I am currently using a cream however my condition is very bad. I have it on my legs, arms, scalp, under my breast, face, back, butt, and I think it may even be coming out down there. Please help me I do not know where else to turn. I am a 33 year old mother of 3 and need your help."

Thank you to anyone who might be able to help this lady!

I also have sevre psoriasis and have since childhood remember what works for some dont work for others ! the combo i have found to not only work but work fast is sea salt (the best 2 are black sea and dead sea salt but any sea salt same prencible) if you dont have an ocean to swim in daily you can buy it at health stores! soak in the tub or the ocean get sun at least three times a week and use creams twice a day ! the combo always works for me and my mother! I break out under stress illness and winter! if you are uncomfortable in the beach setting there is always tanning beds and soaking in your own tub! when i break out it is head to toe and cant tan all areas on the local beach so tanning beds come in handy for less conspicious spots! it takes about a week to really see the differnce and feeling the differnce is the next day ! LIKE I SAID AT THE BEGING NOT ALL TYPES OF PSORIASIS RESPOND THE SAME TO TREATMENTS AND THE CREAMS DONT ALWAYS WORK ! for your scalp their is a oil or save money use baby oil ! then comb out the scalp and use your creams in the hair let them sit for at least 4 hours if you can longer ! I hope this helps you cause it is not only imberessing but it is hard to get rid of them if stress is a factor and you are stressing over them! if you notice they are worse under stress find ways to relax it is important that you find what is the main factors for your break outs then find ways to relieve those factors !

There are different ingredients in some of the creams and lotions available to people with psoriasis. This page tells you how to read the labels of those products, and how to decide whether creams, lotions or ointments are better for you:

http://www.psoriasisconnect.com/health_style/moisturizers.jsp

All of them have the goal of keeping your skin moisturized. Some of them add sunscreens, antioxidants or anti-irritants as well.

And the National Psoriasis Foundation page discusses how creams range from very strong or superpotent (Class 1) down to very weak or least potent (Class 7). You might find your cream on this list and ask your doctor if there is a cream on the list of a higher potency that would help you more:

The foundation also has a Connect page where you can find support groups in your area, as well as online chats and message boards. So often we get the best information from others who are sharing our experiences

While it won't help your immediate discomfort, take heart in knowing that as many as 7.5 million Americans have psoriasis, and that there is a lot of research, community awareness activities and fundraising going on to learn more about causes and possible cures.

Were you recently diagnosed?

Has your doctor told you what kind of psoriasis you have?

Do you feel that your doctor knows a lot about this area? If not, perhaps we can help you find a specialist where you live.

You might also be interested in learning more about Light Therapy, in which ultraviolet light B (UVB) helps slow down the fast cell growth that is part of psoriasis, and has proven to be an effective treatment. And there are also systemic medications (Amevive, Enbrel, Humira, Raptiva and Remicade are approved by the FDA) for use with psoriasis.

Here's more information about the medications:

Hang in there. It's possible for some psoriasis patients to get into remission and stay there for years. Let us know if we can do any more detailed research for you.

I am sorry to hear about your discomfort. After some research I found that in severe cases of psoriasis, the Federal Drug Administration advises to try different creams to prevent outbreaks. Most physicians try the mildest cream to start treatments and that can be changed to a more powerful cream in severe cases.

I am not certain what you are already using as a treatment but talking to your physician may be best to try and obtain a stronger dose of the cream. There is no cure for psoriasis but can be treated with the right medication in most cases.

Here are some websites I found that may help as well.

The Mayo Clinic http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/psoriasis/DS00193/DSECTION=treatments%2Dand%2Ddrugs

Federal Drug Administration http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/ac/04/briefing/2004-4062B1_02_FDA-Background.htm

Here is also a website from Pro Health that offers help and suggestions from others suffering from psoriasis. http://www.prohealth.com//library/showarticle.cfm?libid=8532

Hope this helps. Keep us updated.
