Hi all.
Since long time I know that periods doesn't occur during pregnancy. However, what are all those examples that we see and hear over the internet and in real life about those who experienced bleeding during pregnancy for example (once per month for the first 6 months of pregnancy, usually on their period expected dates too). My cousin experienced that, she actually thought it was her period until 5 months later pregnancy symptoms started and she knew she's pregnant and the baby is already 5 months old. What I know is "a missed period - the first pregnancy sign" !!??

Hi Beesa,
Yes implantation bleeding does not always occur, but when it does it's around a week after you have conceived.

Hi Beesa,
Welcome back to EmpowHER. Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is not the same thing as menstruation. Bleeding occurs during pregnancy for various reasons, some serious and some not. Some women have light bleeding or spotting very early in pregnancy around the time their period is due and they may mistake that for a period. This is called implantation bleeding. Other more serious conditions can also cause bleeding during pregnancy. Hope this was helpful?
Best,
Daisy

Thanks Daisy.
November 18, 2013 - 10:12pmBut does implantation bleeding happen for several months (the early months of pregnancy). I always thought it happens once only around 6 to 12 days after sexual intercourse if there was pregnancy.
