Bleeding cycle of menstrual every 14 days

I understand that a typical cycle is 28 days from beginning to end. Mine has been that I bleed or "have my period" every 14 days. It has been this way for 8 months. I am 32, I have had several children over the years. I have had a history of ovarian cysts, cervical cancer, and andemetriosis. My mother had uterine cancer and had to have a hysterectomy in her 30's. I have been very irritable, have had lack of sleep, hot flashes, night sweats, headaches. Is it possible that I am headed for early menopause? I had a pap within 10 months and it was normal. I do not take the pill as I have a tubal ligation (clamps on my tubes for 5 years now).

Paps only check the cervix, not the uterus or anything else. Don't rely on paps to think everything is ok.

You are correct, a pap would not be able to check for uterine cysts or other conditions. When I recommended that this woman goes to a clinic for a "medical exam", I had assumed the medical professional would perform ultrasound or other screening or diagnostic test.

Crystal,
Please let us know how you are doing after your doctor appointment!

Take care,

I will Alison. I have been concerned about it for some time.

Are you able to go to a clinic or another doctor who operates with a sliding-scale fee, or "self pay"? When I used the self-pay option, the doctors were able to give me a 20-50% discount on visits and services. I know that it is not a solution, but might help.

Planned Parenthood is a great resource, as they do offer services on a sliding scale. You really do need to have a medical evaluation to make sure it is "only" a cyst and not something more serious.

When I called my obgyn he said oh its probably just some cysts. No suggestion to come in or anything. I'm sure though it is because he knows I cant afford his service right now anyway has I have no insurance and just a Visit is $150.00 Which I do not have either.

Hi Crystal,
With a history of ovarian cysts, cervical cancer, endometriosis, and uterine cancer that runs in the family...have you not called your doctor and told him/her that you are bleeding every 14 days?

Bleeding this frequently is not a sign of early menopause (especially at age 32), but it is a sign that something might not be "quite right" and it is more a sign of fibroids, cysts or another medical condition such as you named above.

You had a normal pap 10 months ago, but this abnormal and frequent bleeding has been going on for 8 months. Please call your doctor and go in for a medical exam, and let us know how you are doing!
