Are bacterial pneumonias caused by aspiration contagious

Add a Comment1 Comments

Hello. Thank you for posting.

Aspiration pneumonia is not contagious. Aspiration pneumonia is caused when someone inhales something other than air. Example, liquids, foods, ect., when something "goes down the wrong way" and the person is not able to cough it out before it settles in the lungs. However, an infection can develop as a result of having a foreign substance in the lungs.
