I was considering getting the IUD until I read this. I’ve been having problems in my marriage as is. If this kills my libido then I may as well throw in the towel.
I feel I need to add tho that a relationship is not all about the sex. My husband has made our marriage problems about sex. And it’s not that I don’t want sex... my problem is I don’t feel like it when my mind is racing from everything else that’s going on in our lives. Stress plays as big a roll as hormones. The kids have grown up. Two have graduated and are moving out. My job as a mother is more or less over. I’ve been a Stay at home mother/wife for the better part of 22 years while I raised the kids. No career means I have no income of my own. That’s kind of stressful, esp when considering the possibility of being single.
I hope if you had it removed and your hormones are coming back inline with normalcy, that you also consider that if he was cheating on you... that’s on him. Not you. Don’t blame yourself. (I could take my own advice I suppose as your story is almost exactly like my own). I hope for the best for you. Peace and love.

I was having the same problem as everyone else here. Low sex drive and everything he did to try to make a move made me cringe! I was kind of angry a lot too. And this went on for 3-4 maybe even 5 years!!
I got the Mirena IUD taken out about a week 1/2 ago and the last 3 days have been crazy! I have been like a teenager- hormones crazy and just ready to go. I initiated having sex the last 3 days and that is NOT something I would normally do.
Sorry if this is TMI or too forward. But I want to be honest with you ladies.
If you think the Mirena is causing low sex drive- REMOVE IT! Before it effects your marriage. It's not worth it.
Good luck!

Unfortunately not the same experience with my wife. It was taken out 2 years ago and we are still dealing with things. I pray for initiation like this!! Man how loved I would feel! Maybe one of these days. It is still amiss unfortunately. Don't know if it is life situation, stress or Mirena... or combination of it all.

Hi,
I've been having the same problem as you - except I'm a newly wed, we waited until marriage to have sex and I got this IUD put in a few months ago in preparation and it's been a steady sharp decline in libido since then. I had no idea what the problem was, thought it was other meds I was on and other possibilities, but when I started looking at side effects I noticed loss of interest in sex was one. When I read your story just now I knew this problem is what I'm facing. My husband and I are so happy that we've figured it out - there's nothing else it could be and I had been getting extremely frustrated about our problems with sex (my husband had too as you can imagine). I'm calling a doctor ASAP to get this thing out! I'd love to talk to you more, my husband and I feel some of your pain and we'd love to try to help. If I don't hear from you, I'm sending my prayers and best wishes your way.

I have had the merena since July 2014 and my husband was seriously telling me to leave him if I didn't want him to touch me. I have ZERO sex drive . I was trying to figure out what was wrong with me, what a possible explanation for the repulsed feeling was. Why I didn't want him to touch me or the mere lick of the boobs I wanted to punch him in the face. Then I saw This thread. He kept accusing me of cheating. I tried anything to get turned on even watched porn but it was like watching an episode of law an order for me it did nothing. I'm so glad I am not the only one so I can jump to the conclusion that it's not me but this stupid merena ! My face was also breaking out like crazy I had to buy proactive !!

I'm experiencing the non-existent sex drive on the Mirena. I've had it for about a year and a half. And it's coming OUT. Has anyone switched from Mirena to the Copper? And have you noticed an increase in sex drive?

I got the copper iud 6 years ago after I had my son. I didn't notice the sex drive problems like 2 years later. When my husband would touch me I would act like I don't want him too. I didn't had no sex interest at all always on defense mode and that becomes and issue where I start planning my sex when it should be normal or drinking to see if anything would happen but nothing happened no sex drive at all excessive facial hair grow. heavy periods every other month. My period come six times for the year and when it do comes it's really heavy with cramps feel dizzy nausea. I got to the point where I sleep in the other room to avoid sex. If I knew this was the side effects I would have taken the 50/50 chance of getting pregnant then to get this coppers iud. So I did research and watch some YouTube video where I see people complain about the same side effects so today I decided to take my iud out myself. took me 2 hours but I needed this foreign object To get the hell out of me I'm 34 years old my sex drive should be out the roof the cats outside my building get more action then me
