I found a website about Amberen and this all natural product was highly recommended by several people; most of them RN's. Is this product safe to take? Have you ever heard of the product? is it just for women who are in menopause or can someone my age (41) experiencing very minor symptons (weight gain and breast tenderness) take this product?

Alison, you beat me to the punch. :)

I was going to write about pre-menopause thing. But you sum it up very nicely.

Drummer2, I strongly suggest that you consult your physician first to determine if Amberen is right for you and then learn more about it.

I have been taking Amberen for five weeks now. In about 10 days, I went from 10-15 hot flashes a day to none. I am 52 and had my last period in October. I have't slept in months before Amberen. Amberen has been a godsend. I am a different person and believe everything is safe.

That is truly amazing! I am curious if you are talking with your doctor about the benefits and symptom relief you have experienced with Amberen?

Please keep us posted on your continued symptom-relief!

I heard about Amberen from a radio commercial, so I had to check it out. I don't have hot flashes, but do have low libido, dryness, itchiness, have not had a period in probably 5-6years. I'm wondering if the cost of amberen is worth it for my conditions.
It was stated that Amberen restores regularity of menstrual cycles and returns the normal thickness of one’s endometrium. What can it do for a 60 yr old that does not have a menstrual cycle????

I just read the manufacturer's website, regarding your question: "Amberen can restore menstrual cycles, and return endometrium to normal thickness", and what does this do for a 60 year old women who is in menopause?

The statement you heard on the radio refers specifically to women who have entered into menopause prematurely, and the manufacturer's are claiming, "In clinical trials, premature menopause was largely reversed. Benefits included restored regularity of menstrual cycles and the return of normal thickness of the endometrium." Source: Amberen Online FAQ.

Since you have not had a period for 5-6 years, and have not entered into menopause prematurely, the manufacturer's site claims that Amberen is appropriate for menopausal women to relieve symptoms.

It is important to talk with your doctor about the symptoms you are experiencing, and to let him/her know you are interested in trying Amberen (or other treatment) for relieving your symptoms. Your doctor will need to know what other prescription and non-prescription (OTC, supplements, etc) that you are taking, so as to avoid any drug interactions. Your doctor can also help you gauge the effectiveness of treatment, and offer other remedies as needed.

Let us know what you decide to do, as we would love to hear your progress!

I have been using Amberen for 5 weeks now and I am a new person! I was having on average 20 hot flashes a day and night sweats every 2 hours. I had not had a solid nights sleep in over 6 months. I was just ready to start taking hormones because I was so miserable and came across info on Amberen. I figured after suffering for 6 months what was 1 more month to try something more natural then hormones. BTW- I am 50 and have not had a period for over a year.

Amberen sounds like it has been very helpful for a lot of people. My concern is that there seem to be no studies of long-term affects. The dangers of HRT were unknown until long-term studies were done. Although the ingredients in Amberen are natural, it is purported to raise estrogen levels. Isn't it true that increased estrogen can possibly contribute to breast cancer? Does anyone have any information regarding long-term usage?

I have been taking Amberen for 4 months. I had my last period two years ago (Jan. '08). I am 57 years old. I began with the regimine of 1 orange pill and 1 white pill for about 6 weeks, but increased to 2 a day for the last 2 months. I had been experiencing about 12 - 14 hot flashes a day and about 8 night sweats a night for the last 4 years and finally decided I wanted to do something about it. I did NOT want HRT so, after showing my MD the box with the ingredients, he said, "these are amino acids and you can certainly try them if you would like, they won't hurt you". Well, in the last 3 weeks, I have begun having good relief from the hot flashes and night sweats, my mood has been a bit elevated and I am sleeping so much better. My sister-in-law is a nurse and she was the one who recommended Amberen to me. I would recommend it if you doctor says it's okay.
