I found a website about Amberen and this all natural product was highly recommended by several people; most of them RN's. Is this product safe to take? Have you ever heard of the product? is it just for women who are in menopause or can someone my age (41) experiencing very minor symptons (weight gain and breast tenderness) take this product?

My major symptom of imbalance was a very deep depression that started 4 years ago. Antidepressants did work, but I put on 30 lbs in 6 months. Progesterone and later a bit of estrogen cream do the work without any antidepressants at all, but I can tell when I skip my creams for even a day - my mood just plummets. And no - I am not using any estrogen cream right now, just progesterone, and the mood seem to be stable. With the estrogen dominance the Dr previously recommended estriol cream, but not any other estrogens. I moved and lost the contact with the Dr since my last visit 2 yrs ago and did not find the new one where I live now.

Here is what is going on with my Amberen trial. It was day #25 and the symptoms of too much estrogen production were not slowing down. My initial understanding was that Amberen REGULATES the hormones to the normal status, not just overwhelms you with estrogens. So I called the nurse from Amberen website. She actually confirmed that while taking Amberen it may feel like you are about to begin your period - cranky, breasts swelled up and water retention. For me it also aggravated the inflammation in my heel spur, very painful foot condition. Because I run and exercise regularly, after 2 weeks laying on the couch I decided to give up on the trial. Even after just 25 days of trial It seems like the positive effects (high energy and elevated mood) have continued into the second week without Amberen, but the negative ones have subsided - the inflammation and breast tenderness. May be those 25 days was enough for MY hormone system to be nudged to better performance - I don't know. I keep the diary of what is going on, it the best way to find out what works for YOU. I don't believe doctors are taught these things - that every woman's body IS different...

Zlyuba,

Thank you so much for the update. It's very interesting to read about how the Amberen did and didn't change your symptoms. It sounds like it did a little bit to help your depression? But that it didn't relieve any of the physical symptoms you were having. Have you returned to your creams?

Living with menopause and estrogen dominance is not easy. I took a saliva test (which is suppose to be the most accurate for checking hormones) and my estrogen was low-normal. I am on bio-identicals and so estrogen was added. My period came (after 3 years of not having a period) and it was decided that low-normal was normal for me and I am just on bio-identical progesterone. And feeling great. Amberen did not work for me because of the estrogen.

After overcoming breast cancer and chemotherapy, I was thrown into early menopause. I suffered So many side effects, I could barely function! I was exhausted to the point I had to call in sick, I couldn't think straight, hot flashes, depression...you name it. I thought I'd give this a try, and I can tell you this much....I am back to my old self!! I cannot say enough to thank the makers of this stuff! I was probably going to lose my job calling in sick at least twice a month. I don't know what I would do with it!!!

I've been taking amberen for three months and can honestly tell you it works. I feel like I did in my thirties, no more hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings and tons of energy. I sleep like a baby now and feel normal again. I recommend Amberen to anyone that is suffering from menapausal symptons. I went to my OBGYN, and family doctor, they both said that it is safe. Please don't be afraid to try this product, you will be so glad you did. I look forward to every day now and finally enjoying mid life. Plain and Simple, It works!!!

Anon,

What a wonderful recommendation! So glad you've had such success and are feeling so much better. You say you've been taking it for three months now; how long did it take before you started noticing the difference? And are you in perimenopause or menopause? Thanks in advance!!

It is true that for some Amberen won't work. The best thing to do it go for the free trial and see if it works for you. It's certainly a safer option than HRT.

I purchased Amberen. I had only read glowing reports and my experiences were horrible with the product. I did not sleep at all, my anxiety level rose and only when I stopped the product did I get any relief from these increased reactions. I had chosen the free trial but when I started to have problems the company suggested that I double my dosage and it was pure hell. Because I doubled my dosage, I no longer qualified for the free trial and now had to pay for a product that not only did not work for me but actually made my symptoms worse. I have since found out that I am estrogen dominant and that perhaps is the problem. I am currently on bio-identicals and all of my menopause symptoms are gone.
