I found a website about Amberen and this all natural product was highly recommended by several people; most of them RN's. Is this product safe to take? Have you ever heard of the product? is it just for women who are in menopause or can someone my age (41) experiencing very minor symptons (weight gain and breast tenderness) take this product?

Hi
I am 53 been in menopause for nearly 5 years i tried several different HRT patches/tablets for 4 years but came off 8 months ago and tried progesterone/oestrogen cream from the States for 6 months then came off that as i never found what i was looking for in anything i have tried, my main symtoms are: lack of libido, low energy, and saggy skin - i have been taking Amberen for 6 weeks, (2weeks 2 tablets 4 weeks 4 tablets) so far i cannot say there is any great changes although last night was my first night of uninterrupted sleep for i don't know how long, so i'm hoping that this is the miracle i've been looking for - i'm quite fit i go to gym and do pilates and eat healthy but my skin on the underarms and stomach is quite puckered with no amount of exercise making any difference. Anybody got any tips?

Chino,
I don't know if you are overweight or not but i too was having problems with weight loss, skin tightening etc, i worked out at least 4 times a week, did crossfit in the afternoon and walked in the evening, i watched what i ate and yet nothing was moving nothing was getting firmer i was just getting fatter, i have since gone to see a Nutrienist and with her guidance i went on the HCG diet, not only am i losing weight but my skin is tightening all over its incredible the transformation that is happening, and i am still taking amberon so it doesn't inhibit the weight loss at all.

Chino - You might want to join our Menopause Group and ask other women in the group for suggestions. You can find it here: https://www.empowher.com/groups/menopause

Yvonne13 - I don't know how Amerben will react with your medications, but I do suggest you read the following post about it as it provides a lot of information about the ingredients which will probably be helpful to you. Good luck!

I heard about Amberen, and felt like this would be good for me, my question is how will this interact with the meds i currently take. I am 49 will be 50 in 4 days :) I am currently taking Hyzaar, detrol :( a daily vitamin. I had a hysterectomy in Jan, i did the hormone patches but quit wearing them read to much bad stuff, anyhoot I have been experiencing night sweats and a few hot flashes, for now nothing else has popped up yet... I did use premarin for a while it dried my eyes out to where i couldn't wear my contacts, will this product dry my eyes out? I have had bouts of graves disease currently my levels are normal and take no meds for this.

I am 45 years old and have been in perimenopause for 2 years now. My biggest symptom has been severe frequent migraines that are often unbearable. I was also experiencing mild occasional hot flashes. I was also getting joint pain daily and bad moods way more often than usual. For those worried about migraines and the MSG, I say give it a try. I started Amberen in February and am still on it. It helps me so much, especially with my migraines and mood swings. I missed a dose last week and had a huge migraine the next day. My doctor (endocrinologist) says it is safe, but didn't expect it to help me much. I will see my neurologist on Monday and plan to tell him how much better I am doing on this product. My only concern is that I should be going off of it for awhile, but I am worried that the migraines will come back with a vengeance. I also had endometriosis over 10 years ago and am a bit worried about whether or not that may reappear. Oh, and I also should note that I tried bio-identical hormones for 6 months last year, and they did not help me nearly as much as the Amberen. I am glad to not be on hormone replacement, but am still unsure as some of you are, about long term effects since it is such a new product. For now, however, having migraine relief is like having a new lease on life and I am just hoping that I continue to do well.

Anon,

I am so happy for you and amazed that the Amberen is helping so much with your migraines! I have a friend who, like you, has suffered from migraines since she entered perimenopause (it has been 10 years now, she is in total menopause but still has the migraines). She has tried different medications, different doctors, acupuncture, exercise, and diet and nutrition changes; she has kept a migraine log religiously for years and still they don't have a way to get them to stop. Right now she is receiving Botox injections around the forehead and the back of the neck, which seem to give some relief. But it's clearly an extremely difficult puzzle to solve. I will be sure to tell her about your experience.

Can you take your Amberen box or bottle to your neurologist and see what he thinks about the ingredients and why they might be helping?
I'm very curious! (And very hopeful for you and others!)

I'm almost 49, my periods are still regular. I've been using bio-identical progestron-estrogen as a cream for couple years. Really low dose of estrogen and relatively high on progesterone, the amount figured out by trial and error, so I belive I'm (relatively)estrogen-dominant.
Here is my experience with Amberen so far - after 1 week of use. Right at the start there was some symptoms of high estrogen (I knew the symptoms from fine-tuning the estrogen cream), I sleep better and have more energy, but then my moods started to go wild. I will add progesterone cream next, and then see what happens.
I do have a concern with extra estrogen production, on a long-term basis. Even the woman's own estrogen can provoke breast cancer - it all depends how she metabolises hormones in her liver (which is very individual).
I think I will stop at 30-days with Amberen. I was hoping for more energy from Amberen, otherwise it is not such a good trade-off given estrogen-related complications.

Hope my post will help women to make more informed decisions.

Zlyuba,

Thank you so much for contributing to our thread about Amberen.

With periods that are still regular, I'm interested in the fact that you were already using bio-identical progesterone-estrogen cream. Were there particular symptoms you were having?

And are you still using the cream, while you try the Amberen?

Have you asked your doctor about these products in relation to your possible estrogen-dominance?

And will you come back and tell us what happens when you add progesterone cream?

Thanks so much. I'd love to know more.
