Q:

Is this actually a period?

My period was a little less than 2 weeks early. The majority of the period my blood was dark brown and had thick blood clots, but sometimes the blood was a regular red in small amounts. This “period” lasted around a week. I’m also currently taking the birth control pill (dual hormone) and have had sex, but have not had ejaculation enter. This also happened before I left for a trip out of state and also towards the end of my school’s marking period. Is the period I experienced normal? Could this be a sign of pregnancy?

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

A period is a sign you are not pregnant, not a sign you are. But it seems like this may not be a "normal" period since you are on the Pill. You should not be bleeding two weeks into your cycle. A period should also be fairly light, when a woman is on the pill. I am assuming you have not skipped any pills? How long have you been taking them? If you have not, have a word with your doctor about the kind of Pill you are on, it may not suit you. Not all birth control pills suit all women; you may need a different kind.

Best,
Susan
