I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to in my pill packet or online!
I just wanted to know, why is it that if you are sick or have severe diarrhea on the pill, an extra back up method is required for 7 days? I understand that prevention against the pill is weakened by these things happening to your body, but why specifically 7 days? What happens during this time - why not keep extra protection for the remainder of the pill packet if it's longer than a week left? I'm honestly curious, can't seem to find anything to explain.
Thank you!

Hello, again AD4494.
Thank you for writing.
When you forget to take a birth control pill or pills, you increase the chance of releasing an egg from your ovary. The 7-day birth control back-up is just to be extra cautious as you get back on schedule. It's usually recommended when first starting the pill as well. If you are still concerned about this, call your doctor for more information.
