she is having severe backpain and has been bleeding for 1 month. she has been started on birthcontrol pills as precaution to safeguard the other ovary. is this typical treatment and why the severe backpain?

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Birth control pills may be helpful to regulate the menstrual cycle, prevent the formation of follicles that can turn into cysts, and possibly reduce the size of an existing cyst.  It's important to discuss her symptoms and any questions you might have due to her surgery with her doctor.
