so the song goes. Shoes were made with the notion of protection first, fashion followed. I'm a distance runner and am in awe of the African runners who go barefoot. Nike makes a running shoe meant to simulate barefoot running and develop foot strength. So, with this is mind, there is some support for the notion of going barefoot, and I love to go barefoot in the lawn or run barefoot on a nice sandy beach.

On the other hand, my feet are terribly sensitive and I can feel the smallest pebble in the tread of my running shoe. Running barefoot is generally not an option.

However, had I my "druthers," and were it practical, I'd dispense with the shoes. But, I'm sure my husband would not like playing footsie with heavily calloused tootsies. A Hobbit I am not.
