We cannot speak for individual labs but my best educated guess would be that there will be no test done for herpes if an STI panel is not specified. When you look at the paperwork on a blood panel order, there are literally a hundred or more options to test for. The person ordering the panel ticks off each individual condition to look for. Herpes is tested for due to pregnancy and a few other conditions (in case of an outbreak) but is not tested for on a general health panel.
Again, we can't say all this for sure, just based on these kinds of panels - herpes is a specific request so there is no need to assume it'll be checked for.
