After age 18, the levels considered to be normal rise about 1 point per year of age. Levels between 171 and 200 mg/dl are considered to be borderline high. With low cholesterol, there's no chest pain signaling a buildup of fatty substances in an artery. Depression and anxiety can spring from many causes, including possibly low cholesterol.
