For all intents and purposes, there is a risk of pregnancy when a woman has unprotected sexual intercourse with ejaculation that enters the vagina. She would also have to be ovulating.
An occasional late or missed period can happen due to stress, illness, sudden weight loss or weight gain, a change in routine or body chemistry etc, which can impact a woman's cycle. I don't know your friend's age, but it's not uncommon for teenage girls to have some irregularity as their bodies are still maturing.
