Guide

Hello, Anon. Thank you for your message.

Recovery times can vary depending on the individual and type of surgery carried out. It's important to follow the post-operative instructions you are given by your doctor and/or hospital on looking after your knee.

Most patients are able to stop using crutches (or walking frame) and resume normal leisure activities six weeks after surgery. However, it may take up to three months for pain and swelling to settle down. It can take up to a year in some cases for leg swelling to totally disappear.

Your (new) knee will continue to recover up to two years after your operation. During this time, scar tissue will heal and muscles will be restored by exercise. Your doctor or physical therapist can give you more information specific to you.

best,

Helena
