Bloody sputum (spitting up blood or bloody mucus) can come from common forms of infection in the lungs and airways, such as acute bronchitis or pneumonia. Blood from your nose could very well drip into your throat and cause you to cough it up. Yes, bloody sputum can also be a result of lung cancer. Given your information, cancer is very unlikely. Try not to think the worst, though I know this can be difficult when you have panic issues.

If you continue to see blood in your sputum, mention it you your doctor to ease your mind. I hope you feel better soon
